  Nainital Lake is also known as Naini Lake. Nainital means - Nayan, eye and this lake looks like an eye due to which it is named Naini Lake. And this is a part of Kumaon. There are total 4 lakes in Kumaon - Nainital Lake, Sattal Lake, Bhimtal Lake, and Naukuchhiyatal Lake.  Nainital Lake is one of the four important lakes of Kumaon. And it is the 3rd biggest lake by surface area in Uttarakhand. नैनीताल झील को नैनी झील के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। नैनीताल का मतलब होता है - नयन, आँख और यह जो लेक है नयन के स्वरुप दिखता है जिसकी वजह से इसका नाम नैनी लेक पड़ा।  और यह हिस्सा है कुमाऊँ का।  कुमाऊँ में टोटल ४ लेक है - नैनीताल लेक, सातताल लेक, भीमताल लेक, और नौकुचियाताल लेक। नैनीताल झील कुमाऊं की चार महत्वपूर्ण झीलों में से एक है। और यह उत्तराखंड में सतह क्षेत्र के हिसाब से तीसरी सबसे बड़ी झील है।
